1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you are have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
etidronate. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic to any other
substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Diet-
Make certain that your doctor knows that knows if your diet includes large amounts of
calcium, such as diary products or if your are any special diet such as low -sodium
or low sugar diet. Calcium in the diet may prevent the aborption of oral etidronate.
3.Pregnancy-
Studies have not been done in humans. However, studies in rats injected in
large doses of etodronate has shown that etidronate causes deformed bones
in the fetus.
4. Breast-feeding-
It is known whether etidronate passes into breast milk. However, this medicine
has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.
5.Children-
Some changes in bone growth may occur in children, but will usually go away
when the medicine is stopped.
5.Older adults-
When etidronate is given by injection along with large amount of fluids ,older
people tend to retain the excess fluid.
6. Other medicines-
Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two
different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur.
In such cases your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions
may be necessary.
Antacids containing calcium ,magnesium or aluminium or
mineral supplements or other medicines containing calcium, magnesium or
- these will decrease the effects of etidronate
7. Other medical problems-
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of etidronate..
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Bone fracture , especially arm or leg- etidronate may increase the risk of
fracture.
Intestinal bowel disease- etidronate may increase the risk of diarrhea
Kidney disease- high blood levels of etidronate may result causing
serious side effects
