Monoamine oxidase incr severe, prolonged hypertension may result
Refer epinephrine for drug interactions of bretylium, guanethidine, halogenated hydrocarbon anesthestics, oxytocic drugs and tricyclic antidepressants
Indication:
Hypotensive states
VASSOPRESSORS USED IN SHOCK- includes- Inotropic effects - Isoproternol, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Ephinephrine, Mixed effects- Norephinephrine, Ephedrine, Mephentermine Pressors effects- Metaraminol Methoxamine Phenylephrine
Adverse Reaction:
Bradycardia sometimes occurs. Anxiety, transcient headaches, Gangrene reported in a lower extremity when the drug was infused into an ankle vein
Contra-Indications:
Patients who are hypotensive from blood volumes, patients with mesentric or perpheral vascular thrombosis.
Special precautions:
Hypovolemia, use not a substitute for replacement of blood.
Avoid hypertension. Infusion site- infuse into a large vein.

Average IV dosage- add 4 ml of solution to 1000ml of 5% dextrose solution

Pharmacology:
A powerful peripheral vasoconstritor acting both on arterial and venous beds. These actions result in an increase in systemic blood pressure and coronary artery blood flow
Pharmacokinetics:
Norephinephrine is ineffective orally; SC absorption is very poor. When given by IV infusion the onset is rapid; duration is 1 to 2 minutes following discontinuation of infusion.
