Drowsiness is most common. Insomnia, fatigue, restlessness, dizziness, headache, excitement, nervousness.

Hypertension, hypotension, atrial fibrillation, premature atrial and ventricular contractions.

Dry mouth, shivering, sweating, increased temperature, hiccoughs, flushing, salivation, blurred vision, chills.

Anorexia,nausea. Twitching, shaking/tremors, weakness. Hives/rash, allergic reaction (pyrexia and urticaria )

Hypersensitivity to benzaquinamide

Special precautions:

Cardiovascular effects- sudden increase in blood pressure and transcient arrhythmias have occured.

Special risk patients- benzaquinamide may mask signs of drug overdosage or obscure such conditions as intestinal obstruction and brain tumor. Pregnancy, Children.

Indications:

Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with anesthesia and surgery.

Dosage:

IM- 50mg (0.5 to 1mg/kg ). Repeat first dose in 1 hour, then every 3 to 4 hours, as necessary. To prevent nausea and vomiting give I IM at least 15 minutes prior to emergence from aneasthesia IV - 25mg (0.2 to 0.4mg/kg) as a single dose slowly (1ml/0.5 to 1 minute). Give subsequent doses IM.

Medication may cause dry mouth.

Pharmacology:

Benzquinamide hcl has antiemetic, antihistaminic, mild anticholinergic and sedative action in animals. The mechanism of action in human is unknown.

Pharmacokinetics:

The onset of antiemetic activity usually occurs within 15 minutes. Benzaquinamide is about 58% plasma protein bound. Most of the drug undergoes metabolism in the liver, 5 to 10% of the drug is excreted unchanged in the urine. Elimination half-life is about 40 minutes.

Pregnancy:

Safety for use is not established. Use is not recommended.

Children:

Safety and efficacy for use in children have not been established
