Interacting drugs- summary
+ Midazolam
Barbiturates, alcohol, or CNS depress
may increase risk of underventilation or apnea and contribute
to prolonged effect when used with midazolam
Narcotics,
secobarbital or fentanyl and droperidol used as premedications
accentuate midozolams hynotic effect. Adjust dosage.
Thiopental -
moderate reduction in induction dosage requirements has
been noted.
Inhalation anesthetics-
may need to be reduced if midazolam is used as an induction
agent.
Adverse Reaction:
Headache. Laryngosapam, bronchospasm, dyspnea, hyperventilation, wheezing,shallow respirations airway obstruction, tachypnea. Acid taste exceessive salivation, retching.

1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
midazolam or other benzodiazepine derivatives such as alprozolam, bromazepam,
chlordiazepoxide , clonazepam etc.. Also tell your healthcare care professional
if you are allergic to any other substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Midazolam is not recommended for use during pregnancy because it may cause
birth defects.
3. Breast-feeding-
It is known whether midazolam passes into breast milk.However, this medicine
has not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies
4.Children-
Although there is no specific information comparing use of midazolam in children
with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to cause different side effects or problems than it does in adults.
5.Older adults-
Elderly people are especially sensitive to the effects of midazolam. This may
increase the chance of side effects during use of this medicine. Also time
to complete recovery after midazolam is given may be slower in the elderly
than in younger adults
6. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following -
CNS depressants depressants ( medicine that cause drowsiness)-
CNS depressants and other effects of either these medicines or
midazolam, may be increased also of midazolam may be prolonged
7.Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Heart disease or
Kidney disease or
Liver disease or
Obesity - the effects of midazolam may be prolonged
Lung disease or
Myasthenia gravis or other muscle and nerve disease -
Midazolam may make the condition worse.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy:
If this drug is used during pregnancy, appraise the patient of the potential hazard to the fetus.
Lactation:
Excercise caution while administering to a nursing mother.
Children:
Safety and efficacy for use in less than 18 years,chidren are not been establisahed
