Pharmacology/ Pharmacokinetics
Drug Interaction:
Fluoroquinolones include the following : Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin, Lomefloxacin, Ofloxacin, Pefloxacin, Enoxacin Refer Ciprofloxacin
Theophyline kinetics may be altered by concomitant use of pefloxacin. Increased anticoagulant effects of warfarin. Cyclosporin blood levels increased, convulsions may be precipitated by concurrent admin of NSAID,s. Rifampicin may reduce serum levels, Iron inhibits absorption Antacids reduce absorption of many quinolones. Milk and milk products may reduce absorption of pefloxacin.

Adverse Reaction:
Pseudomembranous colitis and superinfections. Nausea, vomiting, gastric pain, confusion, Disorientation, abnormal movements, Skin reactions and photosensitisation.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens to quinolones including pefloxacin, Children under 15 years, glucose 6-phosphatedehydrogase deficiency, Pregnancy and lactation.
Special precautions: History of convulsions, raised CNS damage and intracranial pressure, toxic psychosis, Severe cerebrovascular disease, Severe liver disease, elderly, Excessive exposure to sunlight during and 5 days after cessation of therapy.
