Indication Type Description:
Drug Interaction:
Potentiates hypotensive effect of antihypertensives. Increased CNS effects with alcohol and CNS depressants Increaed bradycardia with beta blockers and digoxin.
Increased serum conc. of tizanidine with CYP1A2 inhibitors eg. zileuton, ciprofloxacin and other fluroquinolones, antiarrhythmics, cimetidine, famotidine, oral contraceptives, aclovir, ticlopodine.
Decreased serum conc. of tizanidine with rifampicin. Use with caution with drugs that prolong QT interval

Adverse Reaction:
Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, Insomnia, headache, anxiety, Nausea, dryness of mouth, GI disturbances, Hypotension, bradycardia, Muscle pain and weakness, Transcient increase in serum transaminase, Hallucinations, Hepatitis
Contra-Indications:
Severe hepatic dysfunction
Special precautions: Hepatic or renal insufficiency. Children, Elderly Pregnancy, Lactation
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis
Dosage-
Initially 2mg daily as a single dose increasing to 2mg increments at no less than 3-4 days intervals Given in divided doses 3-4 times daily.

KEY POINTS
1. There is no good evidence that NSAIDs were superior to simple analgesics such as paracetamol or to suggest that any one of the many available NSAIDs had greater efficacy in relieving pain of osteoarthritis.
2. One systematic review of randomised controlled trials has found that topical agents provide pain relief in patients with osteoarthritis and offer a non-toxic alternative to systemic drug treatment. However there is no evidence to indicate whether the prescribed agents were superior to less expensive, non-prescribtion drugs over the counter
(OTC) alternatives, or to other local treatments such as hot or cold packs.
