Drug interaction - summary-
Iodinated contrast material
Parentral contrast studies with iodinated materials can lead to
acute renal failure and have been associated with lactic acidosis
in patients receiving metformin.
Therefore withhold metformin for at least 48 hours prior to and 48 hours
subsequent to the procedure and reintstate only after renal function
has been re-evaluated.

Adverse Reaction:
Rarely convulsions, rigors, ventricular fibrillation, Pulmonary oedema, circulatory failure, cardiac arrest.
Occassionally anaphylactic shock, Hypersensitivity (dyspnoea, bronchospasm oedema of face and glotitis).
Fatalities have occured. Nausea, Metallic taste, vomiting, sensation of heat, Weakness, dizziness, Paraesthesia, headache, Cough, rhinitis, sweating,
Retching, lachrymation, Visual disturbances, pruritus, Salivary gland enlargement,
Pallor, tachycardia, hypotension.
Contra-Indications:
Meglumine should not be used in cerebral arteriography, femoral & other peripheral arteriographies.
Preparations must never be injected into sub-archnoid space & are definitely contraindicated for myleography.
Sensitivity to iodine, severe cardiovascular disease, macroglobulinemias, pregnancy.
Special precautions:
Severe hepatic/renal damage, dehyration, hypertension, sickle cell disease, hyperthyroidism, lactation.
