Drug Interaction:
Penicillins include- Natural- Penicillin G, Penicillin V Penicillase -Resistent- Cloxacillin, Docloxacillin, Methicillin, Nafacillin, Oxacillin Aminopenicillins- Amoxicillin, Amoxicillin/Potassium Clavulanate, Ampicillin, Ampicillin/Sulbactum, Becampicillin Extended spectrum- Carbenicilin, Mezlocillin, Piperacillin.Tazobactam sodium, Ticarcillin, Ticarcillin/Potassium clavulanate Refer Penicillin V Potassium
Pipercillin may inactivate aminoglycosides. Synergistic with cephalosporins, Clearance of pipercillin reduced by probenecid.
Indication:
Treatment of mixed infections.

Adverse Reaction:
Anaphylactic reactions, rare, prolongation of bleeding time.Leucopenia, eosinophilia, electrolyte and fluid disturbances.
Contra-Indications:
Allergy to penicillins
Special precautions:
Allergy to cephalosporins,pregnancy.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indication:
Treatment of mixed infections and presumtive therapy prior to identification of causative organisms. Also it may be used as a single drug therapy in some situations where two antibodies are normally used.
Dosage:
Administer IM or IV for serious infections: Give 3 to 4g every 4 to 6 hours as a 20 to 30 minute IV infusion. Maximum daily dosage is 24g/day. Limit IM injection to 2g/site.
Infants and children below 12 years: Dosage not established.
Following doses suggested: Neonates - 100mg/kg/day every 12 hours. Children- cystic fibrosis, 350 to 500mg/kg/day divided every 4 to 6 hours. Other conditions- 200 to 300mg/kg/day divided every 4 to 6 hours..
