Magnesium salts +
Aminoquinolones
the absorption and therapeutic effect of the aminoquinlones
be decreased
Digoxin
magnesium salts absorb digoxin in the GI tract, decreasing its
bioavailability, however,,this has only been reported for
magnesium containing antacids
Nitrofurantoin
adsorption of nitrofurantoin on to magnesium salts occur,
decreasing the bioavailability and possibly the anti-infective
effect of nitrofurantoin
Penicillamine
GI absorption of penicillamine decreased,,possibly
decreasing its pharmacologic effects; however this has only
been reported for magnesium containing antacids
Tetracyclines
GI absorption and serum levels of tetracyclines
decreased; A decreased antimicrobial response may occur

Indication:
Dietary supplement
Dosage:
Dietary supplement- 54 to 483mg/day in divided doses Adult- males- 350 to 400mg; females- 280 to 300mg
Overdosage-
Symptoms Hypotrension, nausea, vomting, urinary retention, bradycardia, cutaneous vasodilation, ECG changes, hyporeflexia, secondary CNS depression, respiratory changes,coma, asytolic arrest
Treatment
1. Reversal of toxicity with calcium is imediate but transcient.
2. Dialysis is the treatment of choice (both peritonal and hemodilaysis )
Missed dose-
1. If you taking magnesium supplements for one or more days threr is no cause for concern, since it takes some time for your body to become low in zinc.
2. However, if your health care professional has recommended that you take magnesium, try to remember to take it as directed every day

1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
Magnesium. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic to any other
substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
It is important that you are receiving enough vitamins and minerals when
become pregnant and that you continue to receive the right amount of
minerals thtoughout your pregnancy.
However, taking lage amounts of dietary supplements during pregnancy
may be harmful to the mother and/or fetus and should be avoided
3. Breast-feeding-
It is equally important that you receive the right amount of vitamins and
minerals so that your baby grows properly.
4.Children-
Problems in children have not been reported with intake of normal daily
recommended amounts.
5.Older adults-
Problems in older adults have not been reported with intake of normal
recommended daily requirements.
6. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any the following-
Cellulose sodium phosphate- use with magnesium supplements
may prevent cellulose phosphate from working properly
The supplements should be taken 1 hour before or after
cellulose phosphate
Magnesium containing preparations- use with magnesium supplements
may cause high blood levels of magnesium which may increase
side effects.
Sodium polystrene sulfonate- use with magnesium supplements
may cause magnesium supplement to be less effective.
Tetrcycline oral- use with magnesium supplement may prevent
the tetracycline from working properly
7. Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Heart disease- magnesium supplement may make the condition worse.
Kidney problems- magnesium supplements may increase the risk of
hypermagnesemia( too much magnesium in the blood)
