Indication Type Description:
Drug Interaction:
Concurrent use with immunosuppressants may reduce the efficacy of vaccines
Indication:
Active immunisation against rabies
Adverse Reaction:
Headache, diziness, Abdominal pain, Nausea, myalgia, Inj-site reactions such as itching, swelling
Contra-Indications:
Do not administer in repeated doses once vacine treatment has been initiated. Repeating the dose may interfere with maximin active immunity expected from the vaccine.
Special precautions- Allergic response- use caution in individuals whom are allergic to human immunoglubulins or thimerosal.
Warnings- Hypersensitivity- there have been a few isolated occurences of angioedema , urticaria, nephrotic syndrome and anaphylactic shock after injection.
Pregnancy- Safety for use during pregnancy has not been established.
Lactation- Problems in human have not been documented.
Children- RIG is generally safe and effective in children.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Active immunisation against rabies
Dosage- For IM administration only, prefeably in gluteal muscle(upper, outer quadrent only) or deltoid muscle. Do not administer IV .
Immediate and through washing of all bite site wounds and scratches with soap and water is perhaps the most effective measure for preventing rabies.

RABBIES IMMUNE GLOBULIN- SYSTEMIC
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
rabies immune globulin. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you
are allergic to any other substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Studies have not been done in humans or animals. However, the use of
rabies iimmune globulin in pregnant women, has not been reported to cause
problems
3. Breast-feeding-
Rabies immune globulin has not been reported to cause any problems in nursing
babies.
4.Children-
Although there is no specific information comparing use of rabies immune globulin
in children with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to cause
different side effects or problems than it does in adults.
5.Older adults-
There is no specific information comparing use of rabies immune globulin
in the elderly with use in other age groups
6. Other medical problems-
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Immunoglobulin - A - (IgA) - deficiencies - Rabies immuno globulin
may cause an allergic reaction to occur.
Pregnancy and lactation:
