- Corticosteroids growth-promoting effect of somatrem inhibited
Indication:
Long term treatment of children who have growth failure due to lack of adequate growth hormone secretion
Adverse Reaction:
Somatrem - approx 30 to 40% of all patients developed persistent antibodies Somatropin- approx 2% of patients developed antibodies
Contra-Indications:
Sensitivity to benzyl alcohol used as diluent with the product
Precautions-
Insulin- resistence may be induced by growth hormones, observe for glucose intolerance
Hypothyroidism - may develop durin therapy, untreated it may prevent optimal response to therapy perform periodic thyroid function tests, use thyroid hormone when indicated
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Long term treatment of children who have growth failure due to lack of adequate growth hormone secretion
Dosage-
Upto 0.1mg/kg ( 0.26 IU/kg ) SC or IM 3 times per week is recommended.
Becuase of potential side efects do not exceed this dose
Patient Information:
Growth hormone-
1. Inform patients being treated with growth hormone or teir parents of the potential benefits and risk associated with the treatment.
2. If home use is determined use is determined to be desirable by the physician give instructions on appropiate use, including a review of the contents of patient information insert
3. If home use is prescribed recommend a puncture resistent container for disposal of used syringes and needles.
4. Throughly instruct patients or parents in the importance of proper disposal and caution against any reuse of needles and syringes
Pregnancy and lactation:
Pregnancy - Give to pregnant women only if clearly needed
Lactation- Excecise caution when administering to nursing mother
