Adverse Reaction:
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, Hyperthermia,hypertoxicity of skeletal muscles,
Unconsciousness and ANS instability, Rigidity,tremors,reslessness,
Tardive,dryskinesia, insomnia, Dryness of mouth, weight gain,
Sexual dysfunction, breast engorgement,
Galactorrhoea and Menstrual disturbances.
Contra-Indications:
Extremely excitable & overactive patients.
Acute alcohol, barbiturate & oolate poisioning.
Pregnancy,lactation, Coma, Parkinson,s disease.
Special precautions:
Monitor patients on long term therapy carefully.
Caution in patients with convulsive disorders or advanced hepatic,renal or cardiovascular disease. Do not operate machinery or drive vehicles.
Neuroleptics with sedative effect,if any being used by the patient,should be withdrawn gradually.
Patient Information:
1.Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor.
2. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressant drugs while taking this medicine.
3. Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine before
undergoing any kind of surgery.

THIOXANTHENES - SYSTEMIC

THIOTHIXENE
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
Thioxanthine. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic
to any other substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Studies have not been done in pregnant women. Although ,animal studies
have not shown that thioxanthene cause birth defects, the studies have
shown that these medicines cause a decrease in fertility and fewer
successive pregnancies.
3. Breast-feeding-
It is not known whether thioxanthenes pass into breast milk. However,
similar medicines for nervous, mental, or emotional conditions do pass
into breast milk and may cause drowsiness and increase the risk of
other problems in the nursing baby. Be sure that you have discussed this
with your doctor.
4.Children-
Certain side effects such as muscle spasm of the face, the neck and back,
tie-like or twitching movements inability to move the eyes, twisting of the
body, or weakness of the arm or thelegs are more likely to occur in the
children who are more sensitive than the adults.
5.Older adults-
Constipation, dizziness, or fainting, drowsiness, dryness of the mouth,
trembling of the hands and fingers, and symptoms of tardive dyskinesia,
( such as rapid, worm-like movement of the tongue or any other
uncontrolled movements of the mouth or the tongue, or jaw and/or
arms and legs) are especially likely to occur in elderly patients.
6. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any other medicines you are taking
which may interact and produce harmful effects.
7. Other medical problems-
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of thioxanthenes.
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
which may produce unwanted effects.
