 Antogonises vasopressor action of adrenaline.

Reverses antihypertensive effect of guanethedine.

Potentiates other antihypertensive drugs.

CNS depressant of alcohol potentiated

May potentiate other CNS depressants (hypnotics,anaethetics,tricyclic antidepressants).

Antacids reduce oral absorption. Increased concentration of both drugs when given with tricyclic antidepressants.

Mutual antagonism with levodopa.

Drowsiness, lassitude, dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, postural hypotension,akanthisia, muscle weakness, anorexia, insomnia, photosenitivity, rash, constipation, urinary hesitancy/retension and hyperpyrexia. Interferes wih estimation of urinary ketones and urobilnogen.

Coma.CNS or bone marrow depression.Blood dyscrasias,liver disease,mental retardation.

Special precautions:

Cardiovascular disease,epilepsy,glaucoma. History of breast cancer. Exposure to extreme heat. Elderly,pregnancy.lactation.

Psychotic disorders

Dosage-

2 to 5mg orally twice daily Most patients will show optium response with 15 to 20mg/day, although few require > 40mg/day

Pregnancy-

Although studies have not been done on pregnant woman,some side effects such as jaundice, and muscle tremors and other movement disorders have been noticed.

Lactation:

The drug is known to pass into the breast milk and cause drowsiness and unusual muscle movement in the nursing baby.
