Drug Interaction:
Potentiated by quinlolones, macrolides, cimetidine, allopurinol, alcohol, estrogen oral contraceptives
Tacrine, inteferon alpha, disulphiram, fluvoxamine, verapramil, mexiletine,
Nizatidine, propranolol, methotrexate, pentoxyfiyline, ticlopodine, propafenone, thibendazole
Avoid betablockers, Diltiazem, fluconazole, ketoconazole, influenza vaccine,
Antagonised bty phenytoin, rifampicin, barbiturates, carbamazepine, primidone, rotonavir,
Sucralfate, isoproterenol, sulphinpyrazole,
Antagonize lithium, benzodiazepines, pancuronium, adenosine,
Seizures with ketamine.
Toxicity with sympathomimetics, St Johns wort, beta-agonists, diuretics, doxapram, corticosteroids,
Smokers have increased metabolism,
Indication:
Bronchial asthma, pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Adverse Reaction:
Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, hematemesis,
diarrhea, head ache, insominia,
convulsions, palpitations, flushing,
CNS stimulation, diuresis, hypotension,
extrasystoles, life threatening arrhythmias,
tachypnoea,albuminuria, hyperglycaemia
Contra-Indications:
Active peptic ulcer
Arrhythmias
Porohyria
Seizure disorders
Not for primary treatment of acute attacks
Concomittant use of ephidrine in children
Special precaution-
Cirrhosis,
CCF, pulmonary odema, Cardiac or liver disease. elderly
Fever, sepsis, shock.
Monitor serum levels, do not try to maintain non-tolerated dose.
Cor pulmonale.
Hyperthyroidism. Rapid metaboilizers.
Hypertension. Acute febril illness.
Chronic alcoholism.
Pregnancy
Lactation - not recommended
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Bronchial asthma, pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Injection-
2-4 ml upto 2-3 times daily i.v. ( 2ml in 1 min ) i.m. & s.c.
Also as a combined inj with dextrose
Tablets
1-3 tabs thrice daily after food.
Syrup-
5-10ml 3 times daily
Retard tabs
150mg - 1 tab 2-3 times daily
300mg - 300mg 12 hourly. increase or reduce by 150mg increments if reqd.
Interaction with Food:
To be taken after food
Pregnancy and lactation:
Contradicated for use during pregnancy
Lactation- not recommended
