Indication-
Giardiasis
Dosage-
Furazolidone 100mg 4 times a day upt o 7 days
Usual duration 2-5 days upto 7 days in some patients or 10 days for giardiasis
Children- - 1.25mg /kg 4 times daily usually given for 2-5 days or upto 10 days for giardirdisis

1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
furazolidone . Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic to any
other substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.
2.Pregnancy-
Furazolidone has not been studied in pregnant women. However, furazolidine
has not been shown to cause birth defects or other problems in animal studies
3. Breast-feeding-
It is known whether furazolidine passes into breast milk. However breast-feeding
is not recommended for nursing babies up to 1 month of age because furazolidone
causes anemia.
4.Children-
Because furazolidone may cause anemia use in infants up 1 month is not
recommended.
5.Older adults-
There is no specific information comparing use of furazolidone in the elderly with use
in other age groups. Consult your doctor.
6. Other medicines-
Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicines.
Amphetamines or
Ephedrine or
Phenelzine
Phenylephrine
Procarbazine
Selegiline -use of furazolidone with any of these medicines may result in
severe increase in blood pressure
7. Other medical problems-
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of following
medicines-
Glucose -6-phosphate deficiency- patients with G6 PD may develop
anemia while taking furazolidone
