Adverse Reaction:
Pulmonary toxicity & respiratory failure. Fever & thrombophlebitis(local)with injection. Pulmonary toxicity, interstitial pneomonia, fibrosis (overal mortality rate 1%) Acute anaphylactoid reaction, hyperpyrexia, Cardio-respiratory collapse in patients with lymphoma. Rash, erythema, pruritus, Vesiculation, hyperkeratosis, Nail changes, alopecia, Hyperpigmentation, striae, Stomatitis.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indications:
Palliative treatment of squamous cell carcinoma , lyphomas, tedicular carcinoma.
Dosage:
May administer IM,IV or SC Start with less than 2 units for the first 2 doses, for testing for reactions, followed by 0.25 to 0.5 units/kg given once or twice daily.

Bleomycin - Antineoplastic - Systemic
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you are have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
bleomycin.
2.Pregnancy-
Studies have not been done in pregnant women.However, there is a chance
that this medicine may cause birth defects or other problems if either the male
or the female is receiving it at the time of conception or if it is used during
pregnancy.
Studies in mice given in large amounts of bleomycin have shown that it causes
birth defects.In addition many cancer medicines may cause sterility which
could be permanent. Although sterility has not been reported with this medicine
the possibilty should be kept in mind,
Be sure that you have discussed with your doctor before receiving this medicine.
It is best to use some kind of birth control while you are receiving bleomycin.
Tell your doctor if you think that you have become pregnant while receiving
bleomycin
3. Breast-feeding-
Because bleomycin may cause serious side effects breast-feeding is generally
not recommended while you are receiving it.
4.Children-
Although there is no specific information comparing bleomycin in children
with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to caue different
side effects or problems than it does in adults.
5.Older adults-
Lung problems are more likely to occur in elderly patients ( over 70 years of age)
who are more sensitive to the efects of bleomycin.
6. Other medical problems
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of bleomycin.
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems especially-
Kidney disease- effects of bleomycin may be increased because of slower removal
from the body.
Liver disease- bleomycin can cause liver problems
Lung disease- bleomycin may worsen the condition
7.Smoking-
Tell your doctor if you smoke, The risk of lung problems is increased in people
who smoke
