1.Allergies-

Tell your doctor if you are have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to

cocaine. Also tell your healthcare care professional if you are allergic to any other

substances such as foods. preservatives or dyes.

2.Pregnancy-

Studies on birth defects or other problems have not been done in pregnant

women receiving cocaine as a local anesthetic. However, studied in women

who abused cocaine during pregnancy have shown that cocaine can cause

birth defects or other problems, decreased birth weight and size affecting

the babys nervous system.

These studies have also shown that too much use of cocaine may cause the

baby to be born too soon, sometimes too soon to survive. Cocaine have also

shown to cause birth defects and other unwanted effects in animal studies

3. Breast-feeding-

Cocaine passes into breast milk and may cause unwanted effects such as

convulsions, seizures, high blood pressure, fast heart beat, breathing problems

trembling, and unusual irritability in nursing babies

Therefore, after reciving this medicine you stop breast-feeding your baby for

about 2 days

4.Children-

Cocaine can cause serious side effects in any patient. Therefore, it is especially

important that you discuss with the childs doctor the good that this medicine may

do as well as the risks of using it.

5.Older adults-

Side effects including dizziness or lightheadness or fast or irregular heartbeat,

may be especially likely to occur in elderly patients who are usually more

sensitive than younger adults to the effects of cocaine

6. Other medicines-

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two

different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur.

In such cases your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions

may be necessary.

When you are receiving cocaine, it is important that your doctor know if you

are taking any of the following-

Amantadine or

Amphetamines or

Antimyasthenics ( eg. neostigmine, pyridostigmine or

Appetite suppressants ( fenfluramine) or

Beta-blockers or

Betaxolol or

Caffeine or

Chlophedianol or

Cyclophosphamide - chance of side effects may be increased

Also tell your doctor if you have used insecticide or if you have been in

an area that was recently treated with an insecticide. Some insecticide

can slow the breakdown of cocaine in your body. This increases the

chance of side effects.

7. Other medical problems-

The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of cocaine.

Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems

especially-

Cancer or

Chest pain or

Convulsions or

Fast or irregular heartbeat or

High blood pressure or

Liver disease or

Myocardial infactions or

Overactive thyroid - chance of serious side effects may be increased

Tourette syndrome - cocaine can make your condition worse.
