Drug Interaction:

Etoposide, Vincristine, Vinblastine, Teniposide, Vinorelbine tartarate
Interacting drugs- summary
Vincristine +
Digoxin
combination chemotherapy ( including Vincristine ) may decrease digoxin
plasma levels and renal excretion
L-asparaganase
administering L-asparaginase first may reduce hepatic clearance of
vincristine. Give vincristine 12 to 24 hrs before L-aspiraginase to
minimise toxicity
Mitocycin - C
acute pulmonary reactions may occur
Phenytoin
combn chemotherapy ( includ Vincristine ) may reduce phenytoin plasma
levels, requiring increased dosage to maintain theurapeutic plasma levels
Other Information:
Hyponatremia-
Hyponatremia indicates that the body fluids are diluted by an excess of water relative to total solute. Most types of hyponatremia can be considered to result from defective urinary dilutuion . Normal watervdilutiuon requires three factors
1. Secretion of ADH must be suppressed.
2. Sufficient sodium and water must reach the diluting sites of the nephron, in the asending limb of Henles loop and the distal convoluted tubule
3. Therse nephron segments must function normally , reabsorbing sodium while remaing impermeable to water.
Drugs causing adverse reactions- Dilutional

4. Diuretics

1. Diuretics
2. Corticosteroids- withdrawal

Patient Information:

1. Immediately report sore throat, fever, chills, or sore mouth to the physian
2. The following may occur- alopecia,jaw pain, pain in the organs containing tumor tissue,
nausea, vomiting,
3. Scalp hair will regrow to its pretreatment extent, even with conitinued treatment
3. Report any other serious medical event to the physician

VINCRISTINE - SYSTEMIC
1.Allergies-
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to
Vincristine..
2.Pregnancy-
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to have children. There is a chance
that this medcine may cause birth defects if either the male or female is taking it
at the time of conception or it is taken during pregnancy.
Vincristine cause birth defects and death of the fetus in animals. In addition, many
cancer medicines causes sterility, which could be permanent. Although sterility
has not been reported this possibility should be kept in mind.
Tell your doctor right away if you think you are pregnant while receving vincristine.
3. Breast-feeding-
Tell your doctor if you are breast feeding or if you intend to breast feed during
treatment with this medicine. Because vincristine may cause serious side effects.
breast feeding is not generally recommended while you are receiving it
while you are taking it.
4.Children-
This medicine has been tested in children and not been shown to cause different side
effects or problems than it does in adults.
5.Older adults-
Nervous system effects may be more likely to occur in elderly, who are
more sensitive to the effects of vincristine.
6. Other medicines-
When you are receiving vincristine it is especially important that your know
if you are using any of the following medicines.
Probenecid or
Sulfinpyrazone - vincristine may increase the concentration of uric acid in the
blood , which these medicines are used to lower.
If you have ever been treated with x-rays or cancer medicines - vincristine
may increase the effects of these medicines or radiation therapy on the blood.
7. Other medical problems-
The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of vincristine.
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems
especially-
Chicken pox or
Herpes zoyster - risk of severe disease affecting other parts of the body
Gout or
Kidney stones - vincristine may increase the levels of uric acid in the body,
which can cause gout or kidney stones.
Infection- vincristine can reduce immunity to infection.
Liver disease- effects may be increased because of slower removal of
vincristine from the body.
Nerve or muscle disease- may be worsened.
