Drug Interaction:
Contraceptives- Oral include - Ethinyl oestrdiol, norethindione, norgestrel, desogestrel, levonorgesrtrel, medoxyprogesterone, progesterone
Refer Progesterone
Rifampicin,griseofulvin, phenobarbitone, phenytoin, and antibiotics like tetracycline, ampicillin, antihistamines, analgesics and tranquillisers reduce efficacy causing breakthrough bleeding or failure of contraception.
Efficacy potentiated by Vitamin C.
Reduced efficacy of anticoagulants, antihypertensives, oral antidiabetic drugs and antidepressant drugs.

Adverse Reaction:
Thromboembolism: Pulmonary embolism, coronary thrombosis, cerebral thrombosis and haemorrhage, hypertensions, liver tumors and congenital anamolies.
Mental depression, retinal thrombosis, optic neuritis, hyperglycemia, cataract,alopecia, cholestatic jaundice, porphyria, exacerbration of epilepsy/migraine, breast discomfort, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, dysmenorrhoea, oedema. Changes in libido and appetite.
Contra-Indications:
Severe liver function disturbances, idiopathic jaundice of pregnancy, history of severe pruritus or herpes of pregnancy, Dublin-Johnsons syndrome, Rotors syndrome, pregnancy, vaginal bleeding.
Special precautions:
Hypertension, CVS disease, hepatic impairment, epilepsy.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Monorrhalgia Endometriosis Contraceptives
Dosage-
Adult- Monorrhalgia 10 -15mg daily in a cyclical regimen usual dose - 5mg tid for 10 days as a primary treatment subsequently 5mg bid on days 19-26 of cycle to prevent recurrent
Adult - Endometriosis 10 -25 mg daily continuously for 4-9 mths As acetate- 5-15mg daily start at 5mg daily and increase by 2,5mg daily at 14 days intervals take continuously for 4-9 mths
Contraceptives- 0.35mg daily or 0.5 - 1mg daily when combined with oestrogen as acetate - 0.6mg daily or 1 -1.5mg when combined with oestrogens
