Drug Interaction:
Alcohol,barbiturates and CNS depressants- trazodone may enhance the CNS depressant response to these agents.
Digoxin- serum levels are increased.
Phenytoin- serum levels are increased
Warfarin- Coadministration with warfarin decreased prothrombin time.The hyperprothrombinemic effect of warfarin may be decreased.
Drug/Lab test interaction: Occassional low white blood cell and neutrophil count has been noted
Adverse Reaction:
Edema, allergic reactions, rash,pruritis. Hypertension, hypotension, shortness of breath, sycope, tachycardia, palpitations, chest pain.
Anger,hostility,nightmares/vivid dreams, Confuson, disorientation, Decreased concentration,dizziness, lightheadedness. GI disorders,anaemia.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersensitivity to trazodone.
Special precautions:
Possibility of suicide in severely depressed patients. Prescriptions should be written to the smallest number of tablets. Hypotension and sycope
Avoid concurrent admin with electro-convulsive therapy.
May produce drowsiness,dizziness and blurred vision,
Patients should observe caution while driving or performing tasks which require alertness.

TRAZADONE- ANTIDEPRESSANTS
1.Take with food.

3.Notify physician of dizziness,lightheadedness, fainting or blood in urine.
4.Male patients with prolonged,inappropiate and painful erections should immediately
discontinue the drug and consult their physician
5. Allergies- Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to Trazadone. Also tell your doctor if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives or dyes.
6.Pregnancy - Studies on effects in pregnancy have not been done in on pregnant women, However, studies in animals have shown that trazodone causes birth defects and decrease the number of successful pregnancies when given in doses many times the normal doses.
7.Breast feeding- Trazadone passes into breast milk.
8. Children- Studies on this medicine have been done only in adult patients and there is no specific information comparing use of trazadone in children with use in other age groups
9. Elderly- Drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, vision problems, dryness of mouth and constipation may be more likely to occur in elderely, who are usualy more sensitive to the effects of trazadone
10. Other medicines -
Let your doctor know what other medicines you are taking, so that he can advice you accordingly.
Antihypertensives - taking these medicines with trazadone may result in low blood pressure hypotension, the amount of medicine you need may change
Central nervous system depressants that cause drowsiness or
Tricyclic antidepresants - taking these medicines together with trazadone may add to the CNS depressant effects.
11. Other medical problems - Tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems especially -
Alcohol abuse - drinking alcohol with trazadone will, increase the central nervous system depressant effects.
Heart disease - trazadone may make the condition worse
Kidney disease or Liver disease- higher blood levels of trazadone may occur, increasing the chance of side effects.
12. Missed dose - If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. however, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double doses.
13. Storage - Keep out of reach of children. Store away from heat or direct sunlight. Do not store the capsule in bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places.
14. Outdated medicines - Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed. Be sure that any discarded medicine is out of reach of children.
