Potentiates oral anticoagulants,methotrexates and phenytoin. Potentiates antidiabetic effect of sulphonylureas. Action antagonised by p-aminobenzoic acid and procaine group of local anaesthetics.

Mild to moderate infections

Stevens-Jhonsons syndrome, agranulocytosis, aplastic anaemia. GI syndrome. Hypersensitvity skin reactions, renal impairment, lumbar pain, haematuria, oliguria, anuria and crystallisation. Thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, eosinophillia. Hypoglycaemia, hypothyroidism, jaundice in new born.

Sensitivity to sulphanomides. Pregnancy at term, severe renal/hepatic impairment, porphyria.SLE . Infants below 2 months.

Special precautions:

Renal insufficiency, elderly, blood dyscrasias. G6PD deficiency. AIDS.

Indications:

Mild to moderate infections

Dosage:

Adults- 0.5 to 1 g 3 to 4 times daily.

Children and infants more than 2 months - 30 to 40 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
