Interacting drugs- summary
Streptomycin +
Aminoglycosides / Vancomycin / Cephalosporins
Potentiates nephrotoxicity produced by other aminoglycosides,
vancomycin and some cephalasporins.
Enthracyanic acid/ Frusemide
Potentiates ototoxicity produced by other aminoglycosides and
enthracyanic acid, ototoxicity potentiated by frusemide.
Indomethicin
Plasma levels increased by indomethicin,
H1 receptor
H1 receptor blockers mask early signs of ototoxicity.
Acids/alkalies
Incompatible with acids and alkalies.
Benzylpenicilline
Synergism with benzylpenicilline.
Indication:
Mycobacterium tuberculosis,non-tuberculosis infections
Adverse Reaction:
Anaphylactic shock,aplastic anaemia and granulocytosis. Giddiness, vertigo, tinnitus, ataxia, Hypersensitivity reactions.
Contra-Indications:
Ear disease, pregnancy, hypersens, myasthenia gravis.
Special precautions: Renal impairment, lactation.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Indications:
Mycobacterium tuberculosis,non-tuberculosis infections
Dosage:
Administer IM only. 1g streptomycin and an appropiate dosage of additional antitubercular drugs(usually isoniazid, ethambutol or rifampin)
Children- Daily 20 to 40mg/kg upto a max of (0.75 to 1g). Storage: Store under refrigeration at 2C to 8C(36 to 46F)
