Synergy with aminoglycosides.

Large doses cause cerebral irritation and convulsions, Nausea, vomiting.

Transcient elevat ion of liver enzymes.

Hypersentivity to cephalosporins/penicillins.

Special precautions:

Renal impairment, 1st trimester of pregnancy, elderly.

A second generation drug

Indications:

Pharyngitis,Tonsilitis, Otitis media,   Lower respiratory tract infections,  bronchitis,

skin structure infections, gonorrhoea.

Dosage:

Adults and children more than 12 years: 250mg twice daily. For severe infections: 500mg twice daily. Parentral - Adults- 750mg to 1.5g IM or IV every 8 hours, usually for 5 to 10 days. Infants and children(over 3mths) - 50 to 100mg/kg/day in equally divided doses every 6 to 8 hours.

Storage: Store in dry state between 15C & 30C(59 &86F) and protect from light.. Powder solutions and suspensions tend to darken, depending on storage conditions, without adversely affecting the product quality, and potency.

Food interactions: Absoption of cefuroxime axetil is enhamced when administered with food.

1.Tablets should be swallowed whole, not crushed,, since crushed, tablet has a strong, persistent, bitter taste.

2. Children who cannot swallow the tablet whole should receive oral suspension.
