Drug Interaction:
Methoxyflurane Potentiates nephrotoxicity by methoxyflurane
. Sodiumbicarbonate Sodium bicarb inhibits disolution in G.I.T.
Antocoagulants Interferes with anticoagulants.
Convulsants Blood levels reduced by convulsants.
Antacids, Iron Antacids, iron, milk and diary products chelate tetracyclines, thereby impairing oral absorption.
Penicillins Reduces activity of some penicillins.
Indication:
Chronic bronchitis, brucellosis, chalmydia,
Myoplasma and ricketsia
Pleural effusions due to malignancies or cirrhosis
Acute vulgaris
Meningococcal carrier state

Minocycline Antibiotic May 1988
Adverse Reaction:
Nausea and vomiting. Erythema, multiformis, exfoliative dermatitis and photosensitivity. Vestibular dysfunction(dizziness, vertigo, ataxia, nausea and tinnitus).
Raised blood urea and decreased plasma thrombin activity.
Contra-Indications:
Hypersens,renal or hepatic impairment,pregnancy,neonates,children below 12 years,SLE.
Special precautions:
In long term therapy, monitor hepatic, renal and haemopoietic functions.
Dosages/ Overdosage Etc:
Chronic bronchitis, brucellosis, chalmydia, Myoplasma and ricketsia Pleural effusions due to malignancies or cirrhosis Acute vulgaris Meningococcal carrier state
Dosage:
Usual - Adults- 200mg initially followed by 100mg every 12 hours..If more frequent doses preferred, give 100 or 200mg initially, follow with 50mg, 4 times a day.
. Children-(over 8 years of age)- initially 4mg/kg,follow with 2mg/kg every 12 hours .
Parentral- Adults- 200mg followed by 100mg every 12 hours. Do not exceed 400mg in 24 hours.
Children(over 8 years of age)- usual pediatric dose is 4mg/kg, followed by 2mg/kg every 12 hours..
Storage: The prepared solution is stable at room temp. for 24 hours without significant loss of potency. Discard unused solutions after the period. Administer the finaldilution immediately.
